"Hip dislocation after hip replacement surgery"

About: Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital

I was on holiday 3 months after receiving a new hip. My hip dislocated when I bent down too far, but after exellent (and quick) assistance by a paramedic and then a 2-person ambulance crew I was taken to the Northumbria specialist care hospital. On arrival (in extreme pain) I was given further pain relief and carefully assessed. I was moved through emergency admission, to x-ray, to operating theatre very quickly and within 2 hours my hip had been replaced under a general anaesthetic. The care and skill of all involved was amazing, but in particular it was all "joined up" - I always knew what was happening, and what was going to happen, who was going to do what, and who they were. On completion, I was carefully assessed and then transport was arranged to get me back to my holiday accommodation some 40 miles away. I waited about 20 minutes for this - amazing!! I cannot speak highly enough of the hospital, the staff or the treatment I received - thank you!

Dear Mr Messinger,

Bless you! I can’t imagine that a trip to The Northumbria hospital was on your list of sightseeing attractions while planning your holiday in our region. Sorry to hear about your painful dislocation - I do hope you’re managing much better now with your new hip?

I am delighted that your experience with us has been everything we would wish it to be : safe, high quality, efficient and informative.

It’s very reassuring to know that your treatment reflected the "joined up" pathway that we’re working hard to provide for all of our patients.

I hope the rest of your holiday went well. Please do let us know if there's anything more you need from us now that you're home.

Take care of yourself,

Annie
