"My transgender son"

About: West London NHS Trust / Gender Identity Clinic

(as a parent/guardian),

He now lives in London with a London GP - and was referred to the London adult GIC over 14 months ago and was told the waiting list could last 12 months. When he phoned today to inquire about an appointment he was told that they are waiting for "funding approval because he is Irish". He was born in Northern Ireland and is a British citizen with a British passport - what can this possibly mean? It seems the NHS misunderstands his nationality - and he has been unable to get any further explanation from the GIC. He is desperate. Please help! !

Dear BOD1

We completely understand your frustration here, however, to be able to help properly, we will need to know some additional details and ask that you contact us directly so that we can fully understand the scenario in its entirety. Your comment re your son being born in Northern Ireland, would potentially mean funding is required, or, was required when first referred to us, however, if now living in London, that may not necessarily be the case now.

Please contact us directly.

Regards

Lee Wroth - Service Manager, Gender Identity Clinic
