My son has had to wear Vacpack dressing on his foot since March 2016 because of sores and ulcers associated with his diabetes. He has needed these dressings changed every 2 days, Tuesday and Thursday at the Podiatry Clinic and Saturdays at home via District Nurses. Majority of times at home the Nurses have arrived without the Vacpacks, making excuses such as 'Your surgery didn't order it'; didn't know one was needed; don't know how these are fitted.
In June he needed 5 toes amputated and again faced with Vacpack problems. We went to A&E Dept last Saturday evening because the Vacpack was leaking, 2 hour wait to be told that A&E didn't have a Vacpack, couldn't get one and don't know how they are fitted. My son had to wait until Sunday to get it changed and inside his foot was very wet and smelly. His Consultant has always insisted that the dressing is changed BEFORE the foot gets in this state, hence reason to change dressing every 2 days.
