"Absolutely disgusting"

About: Priory Hospital Ticehurst

My partner is currently staying at the priory, I feel I need to voice my worries because something seriously needs to be done about this and I am genuinely worried for anyone staying there. On my first visit not only was I not asked to sign in or give any information, but the 3 staff (yes only three for the whole department holding 40 patients) actually though I was a new patient that had somehow turned up unnoticed. Whilst visiting that day I noticed how the extra curricular timetable was non existent, the shelves were completely empty with no books or anything for anyone to occupy themselves with. The staff were always too busy to do anything someone asked them, even seemed to reply with an attitude to patients asking simply to be taken to their room upstairs. I walked back and forth past a girl who had asked to go to her room at 6:30 after dinner and was still waiting to be taken up at 9:00. She was obviously angered from having to wait for almost three hours and was shouted at by staff for "causing trouble" when she asked why she had to wait so long.

The staff would happily help themselves to a huge plate of food before patients only to tell them they could only take a certain amount because there wasn't enough for everyone. Id also like to know how a home housing people for £1,000 a day could possible run out of paper cups, I don't see where this funding is being used. There was no treatment available, anyone who wanted to speak to a doctor and talk things through would be handed another pill instead. Visiting time finished at 8, the staff didn't even realise that I was still there at 9pm and I believe could have stayed longer if I didn't leave myself. On the second day I witnessed a lot worse. Not only did my partner go to receive her medication from a "doctor" but was actually told "Im not sure this is a good combination for you" yet allowed to take it anyway. In the morning a male patient from the secure unit on the other side of the building walked into the woman's side completely unnoticed and was found by a patient attempting to walk into other women's rooms. They are so understaffed that they cannot genuinely ensure anyone's safety. My breaking point was outside in the smoking area where I witnessed a male patient being shouted at and provoked and threatened by a MEMBER OF STAFF when he clearly needed treatment and consulting for a doctor as he was unstable. He was locked in behind a metal gate and wound up by a person on my side of the fence. I cannot explain how much my heart breaks to see people treated like this. There's no care, there's no compassion, there's no treatment or support, as far as im aware, this is a house that is holding people who need proper care and support but giving them nothing but unexplained combinations of pills to deal with the problem. I will be taking this further, this priory is absolutely disgusting.
