"My father's neglect "

About: Royal Blackburn Hospital / Older people's healthcare

(as a relative),

My father is 80 yrs old and terminally ill with bone cancer among other illnesses such as diabetes, kidney failure and anemia. He was admitted to hospital at 6pm with large amounts of blood and blood clots in his urine. He had his catheter changed in A&E which instantly blocked with blood clots. He was then transferred to surgical triage unit as there were no beds. We asked for a commode and had to wait over 1hr for them to fetch one. He was in clear agony with not being able to pass any urine and had to wait again for any pain killers. He was told at 12.15 am he was having his catheter changed for a 3 way, this wasn’t done till 2.10am. I left at 3.15am and it still had not been flushed through. I was told as I was leaving that they were still waiting for porters to move him. All this time he was left on a trolley and not a bed. During this time, I saw he was also left to lie in blood and was not changed till 3am.
