"Other patient's records left for me to read"

About: Broomfield Hospital

This hospital gets worse and worse. Was left in a room with another patient's file. I know her name and address and am tempted to write to her directly to tell her I had access to her file. Data protection is so awful there. I would hate to think that my notes could be read by others or even taken by others.

Thank you for sharing with us. We take our responsibility of patient confidentiality extremely seriously and have therefore started an investigation. With immediate effect patient notes are now stored in a different area in the department. We deliver a confidentiality session for all new members of staff and refresher courses as part of the Trusts mandatory training. I advise any patient or member of the public that witnesses a lack of patient confidentiality at the Trust to raise this with a member of staff immediately.
