"MRI scan"

About: Nottingham Woodthorpe Hospital

My husband was told by his GP that a scan showed he had an ependymoma tumour on his spinal cord. He was referred to Nottingham queens on NHS. Unfortunately we were told that he would have to wait 3wks 4days to see a consultant. So we were so worried that we asked our GP to refer him to a private Dr. We had to wait 1 1/2 weeks for an appointment, but at least it was quicker than NHS. Saw consultant who examined him and listened to the full history. That was great, but the consultant told us the NHS scan was such poor quality that they would not confirm that diagnosis. The consultant would organise a full scan of the spine and brain with a contrast to see if there was any spread. We expected that because it has private, we would get the scan done within a few days to a week. However, we have not heard anything else since 18th July. We've phoned the consultant's secretary numerous times mostly we got the answer service, but after perseverance we expressed our concern about the wait to get this scan done. The secretary explained that they had 5 Doctors to look after and they didn't know what was happening. The secretary did ring me back and told me that they had spoken to radiology and someone would ring me back today or tomorrow (25th July). Nobody rang, so we called them back (answer service again!). We left a message to say we'd heard nothing from radiology. We called a few more times that day and eventually got to talk to the secretary again. The secretary gave us the extension number for radiology and told us to call them ourselves to arrange a date for the scan. Every time we called guess what....answerphone! Left messages and no call back. On the 28th July (the day we should have seen the NHS Dr) we got a human answer the phone, only to be told that the member of staff who arranges MRI scans is not back until Monday 1st August please call back next week. When I get on the phone on Monday I'm going to let rip! When I get the bills for this little lot, how will they take it if I'm late paying and don't take their calls?I would never use this hospital ever again & deter anyone else from using the services. So different from the treatment we have had at the BMI in Lincoln previously. They were fast, pleasant and you got free excellent quality drinks while you wait to see the appropriate person. £1 for a cup of tea at the Woodthorpe! Absolutely appalling!
