"Maternity Services and child orthopaedic clinic"

About: Royal Berkshire Hospital

Had my last baby at the RBH in September 2015. The midwives and the anaesthetist who looked after me in the labour ward were outstanding and I had a really good birthing experience. My only niggle is the size of the cannulas used. I'm assuming this is a policy decision but I would have liked them to have risen above this and used their clinical judgement and used a size more appropriate to me. Other than being a bit of a pin cushion fantastic. My son was referred to the orthopaedic clinic by our GP. Got an appointment in good time and the Nurse Consultant was excellent. Approachable, professional and went above and beyond. So grateful to have the NHS and all it's dedicated staff.

Thank you for taking the time to give us your feedback. We are very pleased to hear that your experience on the Delivery Suite was outstanding and that your overall birthing experience was good. We are sorry that you required a cannula and that you found the grey cannula painful. Women on the Delivery Suite are always cannulated with a large bore cannula so that we can quickly give fluids; however, as we are unsure as to your individual reason for the cannula we are unable to say if perhaps the clinical judgement could have been improved. The matron for hospital maternity services will pass on your comments to all of the staff concerned who will be pleased to hear you were happy with the care they gave you.

Thank you also for your positive review of the paediatric orthopaedic clinic and staff - they will also be delighted to hear that you felt your son received such excellent care.
