"calcified shoulder"

About: University Hospital Ayr / Physiotherapy University Hospital Ayr / Trauma & orthopaedics

(as the patient),

I was first thought to have a frozen shoulder in March this year, waited till may to get Physio but knew myself by then it was not a frozen shoulder as I had had one previously

physiotherapist was rude and said I had a low pain threshold. doctor then referred me for an x ray which showed arthritis and calcium, I was then referred to a consultant in June, still waiting to see consultant and can now feel my other shoulder starting the same way. my first shoulder is now agony, movement is restricted and have not slept for months.

Have been given 7 different pain relief tablets which have had serious effects on me, with the last being Tramadol of which I ended up at hospital and told to stop taking them as I had an adverse reaction to them. Phoned the NHS complaints today and someone will get back to me in the next 7 days again waiting! !

Phoned the consultants secretary and got told it could be September before I am even seen with Consultant. This is unacceptable.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear missmoto,

You are having a very trying time. I wonder if you have asked for a short-notice appointment. (If you would be available to take one that is). I suspect you will have but if not, it is worth a try. For this, you would have to call the Referral Management Service on 01563 827070.

Regarding the Physiotherapist, I am sorry you found them to be rude. As you are going through the complaints process, I am sure you intend to deal with this aspect of your story.

I am sorry your experience has been unacceptable and I hope that everything gets sorted, particularly your shoulder. Having had a similar thing myself, I appreciate how sore shoulders can be, I could not believe how debilitating it was.

Take care and best wishes,

Eunice
