"Tremendous Service at the eye department"

About: Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust - Queen's Medical Centre Campus / Ophthalmology

(as the patient),

The NHS gets so much bad press so I would like to give my congratulations to the management and staff of the QMC eye department for the quality of service that they provide.

I visited the eye casualty department at 12 noon last Wedenesday because I was losing some sight in my right eye. I was assesed within an hour and told I had a detached retina. Within an hour I was seen by Mr Orr the eye consultant and team. They were excellent and put me at ease regarding the opration I needed next morning.

I returned to the QMC at 7-30am the next morning in a very nervous state to have my retina reattached. The staff were wonderful and put me at ease. The anaesthetist was a lovely gentleman who suggested I should have the operation done with a local rather than general anaesthetic. I was very nervous about this option but I am so glad that I took his advice as there was no pain.

By lunch time I was on my way home!

The department seems to be very well managed with everything "joined" up to produce a professional and relaxed atnosphere.

Thank you for such glowing feedback. It’s great to hear you were treated so quickly! I’ve shared your feedback with the team.

Considering your feedback you might be interested in our annual staff NUHonours awards. If you want to nominate someone from your care you can find out more and nominate via our website (your nomination would fall under the Surgery division award): https://www.nuh.nhs.uk/nuhonours
