"I had my gallbladder removed this ..."

About: Royal Hampshire County Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

I had my gallbladder removed this morning at the RHCH treatment centre, am now at home on the sofa! The whole experience from start to finish was exceptional, the facility, surgical team, nurses, anaesthetists and recovery staff were just brilliant; kind, careful and very professional. The facility itself is spotless and looks as though it just came out of the box, everything is very new and there has never been a post-operative MRSA infection at this site. Special thanks to the consultant, his surgical SpR who made time after the operation on a busy day to tell me what had happened whilst I was under, and to the other staff involved who were so nice to me. Anyone researching this unit because they are considering ‘going private’ may like to hear that the standard of care in this department of the RCHC is actually beyond anything I have experienced in the private sector, and is day and night compared with some of the older wards in the hospital. The cholecystectomy itself was quite straightforward for me, 4 small incisions and so far very little pain.
