"very competent nurse doing pre-colonoscopy ..."

About: Heartlands Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

very competent nurse doing pre-colonoscopy work, unlike the previous ones, unfortunately, no link between her and surgeons. appalling.

What could be improved

nurse pre-assessment info - how about a doc to take a decent history??? I twice gave different nurses ultra clear info about 4 BUPA laparotomies and an oophorectomy which were not on my Nhs hospital file... plus a warning from last consultant that my remaining bowel/pelvic adhesions resembled "concrete mix" and should have been removed along with my remaining reproductive organs (12 years ago). All of this info was noted by the nurses as "adhesions" and because of this lack of info and my age I was listed as suitable for a "first time" colonoscopy by a houseman. The botched procedure, and the prolonged attempt by a consultant to prove him wrong, meant that I spent days afterwards in agony and weeks/months later I am still waking regularly with flashbacks.

Anything else?

after 3 day mega colon clearing events and advice on nutrientand fibre rich diet - why offer the recovering starved patients a choice of two stale white bread sandwiches??? one with egg mayonnaise (already noted by one as an allergen) and the other with processed turkey meat - find the nutrients?

It would have been kinder to suggest that patient's families bring decent food in for recovering patients who had already suffered so much. Why can't you? It's not as if there's a shortage of patients having these procedures.
