Spent from 20th Jan 2016 to 23rd of Feb in the John Radcliffe following an unexpected cardiac arrest. I was unconscious for first 3 weeks of it and I had a life saving operation as well as simultaneous treatment for pneumonia, caused by my heart and breathing stopping. After waking up I still needed a lot of care and rehabilitation and returned several times after discharge for follow up procedures. I spent my time in the CCTU, the CCU, the cardio ward and finally as an outpatient under the care of the Professor and their team. The skill level, professionalism, motivation and care demonstrated to me was simply outstanding. This applies to the doctors, nurses, physios and ancillary staff.
I have very little prior experience of the NHS apart from the same things as most people. i.e. the odd visit to your GP and my children being born. A lot of what you hear about the NHS can also be quite negative sometimes. Well for me when I really needed it, the treatment and care I received was world class.
