"A Joke"

About: Queen's Hospital, Burton Upon Trent

Now as I write this understand I know the reason I attended was my own fault. I have suffered mental health issues since i was 11, with self harm a big factor of my life and suicidal tendencies. I attended Queens at around 3/3.30 in the morning and surprisingly the waiting room was bare apart from 2 people. Anyhow I attended the hospital after my partner found i had relapsed a cut my legs (both). In total i have about 15 cuts in total and the majority were extremely long and deep. I was called into triage pretty quickly and when i showed the nurse the cuts they immediately put me on my own in a treatment room and told me to leave my trouser legs up ( I understand the "isolation" no one wants to see them). Anyhow as I walked to the treatment room i looked into the A and E department and there was literally no one in there at all, staff or patients. I sat on the bed bare in mind mentally I wasn't feeling great and sitting in that room was not helpful in the slightest. After waiting for 2 hours i decided to ask a member of staff how long it would be, the response appalled me. Again bare in mind i had already waited 2 hours (back and forth to smoke) seeing no one else come in during these trips. I was told it was going to be another 2-3 hours to which if i stayed i would of gone further over the edge. The fact that their was no one about, patients or staff was concerning, I understand A and E can be a very busy hectic place but to be told it was going to be a wait of 4/5 hours in total, whilst my legs were still bleeding as when ever i walked it split the cuts more. In the end I had to leave, i will call my doctors and see what i need to go buy myself to clean the wounds. I know i need stitches even the triage nurse said to another they are going to need stitches but without the offer of seeing the mental health team and being left the way I was I was completely appalled. Again i understand the reason I went was my own fault but the staffing issue needs to be addressed and the wait times fixed. I've been before where the waiting room was packed and have been seen quicker.
