On first impressions the rehab unit is new and looks very good

What could be improved

My mother was a patient. She was transfered from Victoria Hospital, after a Sister from led unit assessed her. "suitability" my mothers epylepsy was unstable and thats why she was in hospital. The hca s would insist that she would go to breakfast in the morning even though my mother had told them she had her breakfast and medication before she got up. They wouldn't accept that. Everyday my mother would be put in a chair and would have a seizure and fall off the chair and hit the hard floor. Her safety and care

were not a priority to them. One morning a hca took my mother to the toilet to wash and she was upset and sore so she was crying the response from the hca was "you'll be ok in a min. You haven't taken your happy pills" I'm sorry that's not caring. The evening before she left there I spoke to a staff nurse and asked why mum was being forced up in the mornings as she had told the hcas that she needed her tablets and breakfast first she said they didn't realize that was her normal routine they thought mum just didn't want to get up. The staff nurse also advised me to discharge my mum as she shouldn't have been admitted to rehab. When I asked why did the sister accept her she told me they are pressured from the hospital to accept patients. So why send a sister to assess the patient what a complete waste of nursing time. My mother had a seizure yesterday I was there and rang her call bell after 5mins no response my husband went to nurses station where the staff where just talking the sister came to see her and the instant she was awake dialled for an ambulance on a" blue light". We were shipped off again to Victoria hosp. There were 3 members of staff packing green bags of mum belongings when I checked her belongings in a&e her talkingbooks cd s were soaking wet aswell as her box of tissues where an open bottle of water had been put in the bag. They couldn't get rid of my mum quick enough. Where is the care. ?

As long as all u need is straight forward rehab and you have no other medical conditions before hand maybe you will survive Bispham rehab. If like my mum who is deaf blind epyleptic cronic arthritis in her spine and had several strokes. Then Bispham rehab isn't for you. My mum copes with everyday life brilliantly until her fits started increasing that's what she needed help with and instead she now has bruises and a bad back from where she was left out in a chair so she could fall. If this was your mum what would you do? Whatever the answer please make sure that she is in the right care. Not Bispham rehab who treat all their patients the same.
