"My husband was transferred to ..."

About: Royal Free Hospital

(as the patient),

What I liked

My husband was transferred to the RF from Barnet as an emergency on a Sun nite as he had suffered a burst aneurysm in his brain, had died on scene and been resuscitated by the paramedics. He was in ITU for 3 days followed by 7½ weeks on HDU and during the whole of the 8 weeks the care he received was absolutely first class. The nursing staff were unbelievable and work so hard for long shifts. Everyone on the ward from nursing staff to healthcare assistants and catering staff were polite, hard working, caring and dedicated to helping their patients.

What could be improved

The only small criticism I would have is that I sometimes found it hard to get information from the doctors as to when they were going to be running tests or carrying out procedures but I soon worked out the best thing to do was hang around the nurses station until one of the came along. The other families there all said the same thing so I dont think it was just us!

Anything else?

If you ever have the misfortune to suffer this type of condition the RF is the best place to be - pray that your local hospital can transfer you there in time!
