"Lack off knowledge and care"

About: Ipswich Hospital

I was looked after really well when I arrived. I was first on the op list so didn't have long to wait at all. Went down to theater had op and when I arrived back to stour ward I felt ok. Was helped to go for my first wee as i might go dizzy but was fine. I questioned the nurse about a gel dressing I was told I had but I didn't find it when I went to the loo, they said they didn't know anything about it. I was then brought some water then later tea and toast. I rested for a while longer and the nurse popped back in to take the thing out of my hand, I suddenly felt really sick and faint and had to quickly lay down on the bed, the nurse never said anything and just left me. They came back about half an hour later and said I could leave as they had my paperwork

I said I was worried because I felt so faint, they took my blood pressure and said it was low. So I asked what happens now will it rise on its own they replied I don't know your not here anymore you've been discharged, we need the bed now, so go sit in the day room until you feel ok to leave. So on leaving

I passed the original nurse I saw when I first arrived and told them, they quickly saw to me and checked my blood pressure again and it had risen and I started to feel better now. I sat in the day room for awhile until I felt steady on my feet enough to leave. Next morning at home I could feel the gel dressing down below and it had stuck to me so I called the ward for advice they said to bath to help remove it but the nurse should of checked it had been removed before I left yesterday. Next day I was really sore and itchy so called the ward for some advice but I felt the nurse wasn't happy me keep ringing, they advised a salt bath and to call my gp next time. Which I thought was unfair as i wasnt given any after care advice after I left hospital so I had no idea what to expect or how to look after my wound etc

Many thanks for taking the time to leave your comments; I am sorry that on this occasion the care you received did not meet your expectations. I have spoken to the ward Sister who would like to discuss this with you further. If you could contact me on 01473 702101 I will arrange a suitable time for the Sister to give you a call. Many Thanks Steve Bruce, Patient Experience Manager
