"A & E department"

About: Hull Royal Infirmary

I had to attend the a & e department at Hull royal infirmary about a week ago. my hand/arm had been swelling steadily all day & I just kept thinking it would go down as it has in the past when this has happened. Anyway by 6-30pm I could not stand the pain any longer so we decided to go to A & E at hull royal. I must say I was in awful pain & I must have a reasonable pain threshold because I had given birth to my 2 girls without any pain relief. in fact the pain was so bad I cried all the way to the hospital and I carried on crying once I was in A & E (I am a 63 year old lady & believe me when I say I just did not know where to put my hand/arm because of the pain ) after about 30 minutes I told my husband I could not stand the pain any longer so he went off to see the nurse after which they came & had a word with me & told me that I could have a IV in to get some pain relief into me as fast as possible. The hospital was very busy with about a 3 1/2 hour wait but because I had some pain relief the time went at a reasonable speed. Once I got in to see the Dr, they told me what was wrong unfortunately it was one of those things no one can do much about apart from taking pain killers. Like I said the hospital was very busy & I saw 3 main people all of which were lovely to me the staff were caring & made me as comfortable as possible, yes we had to wait a long time, but the staff were so caring the waiting time took a back seat .I would not have a problem sending anyone to Hull Royal A & E department, in fact only a few days before our son in law had cut his finger very badly down to the tendons & the same A & E department stitched his tendons & his finger back together. So I would like to thank the A & E unit at the Hull Royal Infirmary for there care.
