"A huge thank you"

About: Glasgow Royal Infirmary / Accident & Emergency Scottish Ambulance Service / Emergency Ambulance

(as a relative),

A few days ago, my Dad was unresponsive so Mum called 999 and the call handler stayed online guiding my Mum until help arrived. Emergency ambulance & rapid response paramedic arrived at Dad`s home. They were fantastic, in their care & assessment of Dad. They transported Dad to A & E @ Glasgow Royal Infirmary. The staff were exceptional. The Doctor attending to Dad was compassionate, his communication to Mum & myself was very good. He showed empathy when we had to make a difficult decision about Dad`s care. Nurse Catriona looking after Dad was fantastic. She demonstrated a caring & compassionate attitude and treated my Dad with dignity & respect through out his time in the department. Dad was later transferred to Ward 53. Although only a short time on the ward, the staff were once more very attentive & caring. Dad was transferred to Ward 33 where he is still currently an inpatient. Once more Dad is receiving great care, treating Dad with dignity & compassion. The staff are communicating well to my Mum & myself. Please say a huge thank you to all the staff involved. I can`t thank them enough.

Dear Service user Glasgow

Thank you so much for taking the time to post on Patient Opinion. I am very sorry to read about how unwell your Dad is.

What you have described here about the compassion, dignity and respect shown to your Dad by our staff is the level of care we expect all patients to receive. I am pleased that the way our staff provided care to your Dad was also a comfort to you and your family during a difficult time. You have also highlighted how important is it for family members to have good communication about their loved one's care.

I will pass on your kind words to the staff in A&E, ward 53 and ward 33.

I wish your Dad well in his recovery.
Lisa

Dear Service user Glasgow,

Many thanks for your post on Patient Opinion. I am sorry to read that your Dad remains in hospital and I wish him a full and speedy recovery.

I was very pleased to hear your kind words about all the staff from the Scottish Ambulance Service involved in your Dad’s care; from the call handler who took the 999 call, to the responding Ambulance crews. Callers are kept on the line to find out as much information about the patient as possible and our call handlers offer medical advice where necessary. I am pleased to hear this helped your Dad until the crew arrived.

With best wishes to you and your family,

Lindsay
