"Varied standars"

About: Blackpool Victoria Hospital

It is quite amazing how the standard of care and the attitude of nursing staff varies so much depending on which ward you are in. A&E very efficient and professional but very impersonal. I spent 11 hours there on a trolley and not once did anyone ask me if I would like a drink. Four requests for a cup of tea were unfulfilled until 9pm. The meal offered when it eventually arrived after repeated requests was cold and unappetising .AMU were better but even there it you were treated impersonally . Very understaffed which meant the only nurse was worked off her feet. What a difference when moved to another ward. Regular ennquiries as to you well being and regular drinks. One comment by staff was revealing when they said patients transferred from A&E are often dehydrated when they arrive on the wards. Some staff are obviously dedicated and work hard to ensure patients are comfortable while others don't appear to be too concerned. The lack of any effective staff management was glaringly obvious and some staff are very demoralised by the way they are shunted from ward to ward to cover deficiencies.Managers need to get a grip because they are failing their staff and the patients

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent experience at Blackpool Teaching Hospitals. I am sorry that you found this not to be positive, that you found staff to be impersonal, were not offered regular refreshments or appetising food and staff to be demoralised. Thank you also for telling us that this experience changed once moved to another area. I will share your experience with the teams involved in your patient journey.

So that we can better understand what did not go right in your patient journey and provide you with an individual response and if you feel it would help you, please can you contact our Patient Relations Team on:

Thank you once more for taking the time to post your experience.

Kind Regards

Andrew
