"Difficulty with appointment"

About: Birmingham Midland Eye Centre (Bmec)

My father had an emergency referral from the optician after several phone calls and not a lot of assistance from administration staff I found out they had the referral for a week and had done nothing with it, so eventually after several more phone calls we eventual got an appointment.

At the outpatients appointment I could not fault the care he received but he has to be referred now to another consultant and that was 6weeks ago and we have still had no appointment.

Again I have made several phone calls and every time I ring i get a different answer and not much help.

The referral was not seen for two weeks because the consultant was on holiday? Surely another doctor can triage appointments?

It's rather concerning when we are told how serious my fathers eye condition is and how there is no urgency with the administration side of the hospital, and different answers every time you contact them or they do not return your calls!

Hello Jacqueline, I am sorry to hear that your father's appointments have been delayed for this long. Could you email our Patient Advice Liaison Service (PALS) at swb-tr.pals@nhs.net and somebody will be in touch to resolve this. Rachel Barlow, Chief Operating Officer
