"More Privacy Needed"

About: The Royal Victoria Infirmary

My daughter had to have an xray and I was very concerned that the changing area prior to this procedure is behind a rather thin door.

We could hear absolutely everything that went on with the two prior patients, meaning that the person in the changing room after us could hear everything that was being said during my daughter's appointment.

This lack of privacy is not acceptable.

Privacy needed.

Secondly, my daughter's xray images were up on a computer screen with faced out into the corridor, the doctor left the room to consult with a colleague and left the door wide open!

Those in the waiting room outside the consulting room could fully view my daughter's private image. I hope to close it

Thank for taking the time to provide feedback about your recent experience within the Radiology Department at The Newcastle upon Tyne Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and we are very sorry that the privacy afforded to your daughter was not appropriate. We are aware of the limited privacy offered in a hospital environment, such as with waiting areas in close proximity to examination rooms and limited privacy provided by curtains on a ward and staff members are advised to try to maintain patient privacy, confidentiality and dignity in these difficult surroundings.

We have shared your feedback with staff and reminded them of the need for confidentiality at all times; in discussion with patients and other members of staff and when displaying patient images. We will also review the positioning of imaging monitors in the department to try avoid any further issues.
