"A & E response time"

About: Darent Valley Hospital

Absolutely shocking time in A & E on 9/7/16, arrived at 10pm and finally left at 430am, staff wandering round whilst worried parents and ill children sit in waiting room not knowing what's going on, waiting time escalated from 3 hrs to 6 hrs due to poor management and prioritising of admissions coming in main a & e

We are sorry that you had such a long wait on the 9th July 2016, the reason for the delay was due to an emergency on Willow (Children’s) Ward which demanded staff’s immediate attention and required several of the paediatric emergency team to attend.

Unfortunately this emergency also coincided with the arrival of 23 new paediatric patients coming into the A&E department within a 2 hour period. As you can appreciate, this stretched an already depleted team, who worked extremely hard to see as many patients as they could.

We do understand your frustration at the lack of communication but hope this response answers why things did not run as smoothly for you as we would have liked.

Kind regards

The Communications Team
