"Wisdom teeth removal surgery"

I had my upper two wisdom teeth removed under general anaesthetic. I was extremely nervous for weeks leading up to the surgery, as it was my first time. I was asked to be in day surgery unit for 12pm and after a short wait, myself and two other ladies were shown to our bed areas and checked in. Friendly staff and lovely fellow patients made my short stay a lot more comfortable. Surgeon visited promptly, very approachable,friendly and confident making me feel more relaxed (thank you). Bit of a tip, ask where you are on there list, I was fourth (which was actually last), but having a rough idea helps. Nurses tell you when to get changed (hospital gown, own underwear and hospital surgical stockings to prevent blood clots), so you are not waiting around in hospital gown for ages.

About 3.40pm (sounds a long wait but time went fairly fast really) Anaesthetic nurses came to get me and were lovely, friendly relaxing, few checks, then popped onto trolley and wheeled to theatre. Once there little needle in arm, few stickers on chest (heart monitoring), bp cuff on arm, and before you know it they pop little liquid through needle (actually a tiny plastic tube) and you are asleep, didn't even know about it. Woke up in recovery, just myself and two recovery nurses. Woke up gently, just like waking up in morning, bit of gauze in mouth (only for 20mins or so), but nurses right beside me all the time and I honestly felt so so relaxed, I could have gone back to sleep. Then wheeled back on ward, ward staff checked me, offered me some water straight away and within 30mins offered biscuit or yogurt. Within hour was up, getting dressed and told my mum was on way to pick me up. I can't thank nurses, doctors, surgeons, hca, cleaners, reception enough, despite being so nervous, I calmed down very quickly once there, and found my stay and surgery a pleasure. Only on day three of recovery but had no swelling, no bruising, slight discomfort but nothing paracetamol doesn't clear, bit of jaw ache, slight sore throat and sore lips. Honestly I can't really tell I've had anything done, apart from the fact I no longer have the stabbing pain in the side of my face caused by my wisdom teeth. I'm so relieved I had them removed and appreciate the experience as I am no longer scared of anaesthetic and surgery. Thank you to everyone at grh day surgery, oral and maxillofacial.
