What I liked
The Doctor was helpful and reassuring. I was given the medical care I desperately needed in terms of fluids and anti sickness medication.
What could be improved
Nursing staff lacked dignity, respect and basic nursing care!
I was taken into the emergency department following a very sudden onset of a stomach bug. I had lost so much fluid I collapsed and was very confused. Once taken round to majors on the trolley I felt I was going to be ill again, I begged for a bed pan or anything, and the reply I got was its OK just let it out. I was left to sit in my own soil for some time before being passed spray and wipes to 'clean myself' Which is lovely accept I could barely move and it was everywhere and had not stopped. Eventually I was given a pad and some net pants, but it was obvious this was not going to be enough. Once my fluids were set up I was left on the trolley in pain, confused and without a pillow for a couple of hours.
As a nurse myself, I did not feel that they did their best for me, neither was this acceptable, the illness I suffered would be undignified at the best of times, they just made it harder!
I am not from the area, I was meant to be camping for the weekend, but if anyone tells me they are heading up that way in the future, the first thing ill say is whatever you do, if you get ill, avoid that hospital.
Another observation of mine was that when I was starting to feel able I got up to use the toilet out of sheer desperation, I was still suffering with horrendous diarrhoea. They did not seem worried about this which makes me wonder how seriously they take infection control!
Anything else?
I am convinced that I and Nurses at most other Hospitals would have much more regard for dignity and respect. It's not like I could even say they were busy!
