I was given my own room on Branston ward which was fine.

Tanya from epu came to see me she has been great from start to finish. The student nurse then introduced herself she was friendly.

I then had another nurse and the communication was poor they came and said so what are you in for!? Holding my notes which they hadn't read so I began to explain myself what I was in for and why which as you can understand is upsetting without having to explain it all again.

I couldn't really understand what this nurse was doing apart from taking blood. I explained I have difficult veins and it's not easy to get blood out of me! I told them the best arm which they ignored and done the other one. They put the band so tight around my arm it left a mark! And the bruise because they were trying for ages trying to get blood. They did eventually, it was a very slow painful procedure given I'm not worried about giving blood I thought I'd pass out. The nurse didn't seem bothered and said the blood they did get would have to do! My hand was just as bad!

My then nurse came in to introduce herself to be honest I barely see her. The experience when I had my GA was fantastic the Porter and anesthetist and other staff in that room were great friendly and attentive.

June my recovery nurse was fantastic and really cared about me being very attentive as obviously a very upsetting time for me.

When I got back to ward I was told to pull lever by June if I needed anyone apart from getting offered water and a sandwich (no hot drink) I was forgotten about. No aftercare.

I was in the room on my own and thought my nurse could have been more attentive. I felt a burden to pull cord, just the impression I got from her. My husband came to collect me as we have 2 young children who needed to be in bed. He called a few times before they eventually said I could go and we explained out situation children that need to be in bed! And no family nearby! I left without seeing the nurse she was no where to be seen when I left! My worst experience was that ward!

It is clear from your comments that your experience was very mixed. Whilst some of the team members displayed the values and behaviour we expect from all our staff, others obviously did not.

I would like to be able to positively identify the team members involved in providing your care, but to do so would require some additional information from you.

I will use this feedback as a learning tool, reminding them of the need to be aware of, and to display, the Trust’s values at all times.
