"The need of midwifes to tell you how much..."

About: Bradford Royal Infirmary

I had to go to the maternity assessment centre because of a failed stretch and sweep the community midwife performed which would not have worked properly anyway because my cervix was posterior but resulted in bleeding. The maternity assessment unit was busy but when I was examined the first thing the midwife did when using the ecg strap was to tell me off for not bringing in the strap I used when I last went there for reduced movement and that it costs the NHS 2 pounds. My issue with the service is my internal bleeding was a result of a midwife being rough when performing a stretch and sweep hence why I had to go to the mac unit. Why are the midwifes so obsessed with telling patients the cost of things and telling them off before an examination. This is not the first time it has happened. Pregnant women are already anxious particularly if they have come in due to a problem like bleeding. The 2 pound cost of an egg strap is really insignificant to a patient at that point. This is not the first time midwifes have given a lecture on NHS costs they also do it with the urine pots they hand out. If it's that big of a deal ask for people to contribute towards the cost of a strap rather than receiving the patient with negativity.
