About: North Devon District Hospital / Accident and emergency

(as the patient),

My wife, daughter and I are in Devon for a two week holiday. Sadly I have become ill and needed urgent interventions yesterday. We consequently spent most of yesterday at your district hospital. I just want to to share with you what a wonderful experience we had at every stage. We have experienced many hospitals across the country, in Europe and the US. This experience was at the top our our experiences.

I understand the building originated some two decades ago. On arrival it felt modern, well equipped, well maintained and very, very clean everywhere. It was helpful often seeing photographs of the team members and performance statistics.

Though I did struggle to find the car park for the A&E unit. (Probably me rather than the signage! ) Everyone we met - admin staff, porters, nurses and doctors were so welcoming, positive and helpful.

Our journey took us/me through the walk-in A&E the MAU, radiography and pharmacy. The nurses in the MAU were fantastic and so efficient and supportive to us all. And the food was great - hot and well served. Coming away with "not-good" news was balanced by a strong sense the assessments were sound and the journey forward, while demanding, would be doable.

On the family and friends test - "5 stars". I hope you can share our thanks with those we met.

Firstly thank you so much for taking the time to post your very positive comments on the website, at what was obviously a very worrying time for both you and your family.

I was sorry to learn that you had to attend the hospital whilst on holiday, but very pleased to see you had such a postive experience throughout your treatment and visits to various departments.

We are very proud of our staff and the treatment they deliver in all of our departments, and this can be very challenging during our busy summer holiday period, however I am very pleased to see you were treated so well by all staff, especially as yesterday was exceptionally busy within the hospital and MAU.

I have shared your kind comments with managers of the departments you visited, where I know they will be warmly recieved and shared with the staff.

I do hope you can enjoy the rest of your holiday, and wish you the best for the future with your treatment.
