"Cancelled my operation after 6hours of waiting"

About: Darent Valley Hospital

My appointment was made for 11 o clock saw the consultant and anaesthetist about 12 sign all relevant paperwork and was told to get dressed into hospital gown and sit and wait, time was slowing getting on about 3.30 I asked at reception how long until il be going down was told the patient before me has just gone down and it would be a another hour an a half or so until I'm seen, so I said okay and sat back down and waited no correspondence from anyone until 5.30 they ring to cancel my operation due to ' lack of beds' I've have just sat for a complete 6hours to then be told I'm cancelled, I had to take time of work and reschuel another important appointment for this. Really unhappy with the lack of communication throughout the day until the last minute So now I have no set date for another appointment which I had already waited months for.

We are very sorry that this occurred and fully accept that waiting 6 hours to be told your operation would be cancelled due to lack of a bed is extremely disappointing especially as you had taken the time off of work. If you would like us to look into what happened on this occasion please do contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALs) on 01322 428383 or email pals@dvh.nhs.uk so we can investigate further.

Kind regards
