"Shameful consultant"

About: St Mary's Hospital (Newport)

I have been treated at St Marys Maternity unit for my current pregnancy and although I cant not fault the midwife team there as they are the most helpful and caring team and remember all their patients by name and made me feel so comfortable. Unfortunately my experience was made alot worst by the consultant I had to see. I was booked to see a consultant to discuss a C Section as I have some medical issues, they completely refused to accept my decision and wouldnt even listen to my reasons as to why I wanted the C Section, they were rude, nasty and once they knew I was foreign they became completely unapproachable and refused to listen to me, closed my file and basically said they would not help and that I have had a previous pregnancy and will be able to deal with this one the same way. When I questioned them on a possible induction they said they would only do it once I was 14 days late, this has now caused me to have panic attacks and worry more about the birth of my child. According to the NICE guideline which was updated in 2011 they cant refuse a C Section, so why was I refused one, is it not my right as a mother to decide how I want to give birth, I understand the risks and know its surgery and this was not a decision made lightly. I thought the medical team is there to support the mother and her decision and not bully her into accepting what they say and making a person cry. I left the hospital a complete mess and in tears and I felt awful. I have spoken to my midwife and they have even said the consultant should not have refused the C Section and should have rather got me to see someone else... I didnt even get the chance to ask themabout other issues I had been having over the weekend or ask about the pain that I had been in all weekend.
