"I am truly grateful for the skill and expertise of the staff in Ward 11"

About: Forth Valley Royal Hospital / Accident & emergency

(as the patient),

I was recently rushed to hospital due to several weeks of regularly vomiting, diarrhoea, acute chest pain and discomfort, and giddiness. I had consulted with my GP on a few occasions and each time told to come back if no improvement, it likely was a virus. Intuitively I felt it was more serious. One night I called the paramedics.

On admission to A&E at NHS Forth Valley I was becoming quite disorientated but was aware of quick, efficient, detailed, professional attention from all staff. Next day I was admitted to Ward 11, where I stayed for about 8 days ... sepsis, gallstones, inflammation and so on were diagnosed - I was regularly monitored, staff answered questions I had, staff serving food were highly personable, food had a variety of choices. I was meant to be on a low fat diet - but the meals didn't reflect this. That said they were enjoyable. Nurses were attentive and most friendly. Those on night duty on the first few nights when I was regularly in pain were extremely attentive and reassuring.

In term of quickly diagnosing and getting me back to sufficiently good health in order to be discharged, I am truly grateful for the skill and expertise of the staff.

Thank you

Response from NHS Forth Valley

Dear Aloysious

Thank you for taking the time to post your comments about your experience in Forth Valley Royal Hospital. Your feedback is greatly appreciated.

We are glad that you enjoyed your food as the team work closely with the Dietitians and do their utmost to provide an excellent catering service to suit all types of diets, as food is so important in patient’s recovery.

Whist there are no low fat choices on the standard menu, patients are able to make a decision using the information available, for example a heart for a healthier choice, H for a high calorie choice etc. Where patients have a medical requirement for a special diet this is determined by the dietitians.

I have shared your feedback with the team who deal with the Catering on ward A11. It is always good to be able to share positive feedback and appreciation from patients with our staff.

I hope that your recovery is progressing well and please feel free to contact me if you would like to discuss this further. My details are sandra.west@serco.com or 01324 567811.

Yours sincerely
