"Short Stay at the Cumberland Infirmary"

About: Cumberland Infirmary Cumbria Teaching PCT

(as the patient),

I was in last week twice! Eventually resulting in an operation to remove my appendix thank goodness.

I just wanted to say positives -

The nurses are fabulous - Larch A/B - Wendy, Jacqui, Margaret. Dr Wayman you all did a fantastic job. On Aspen (Post Op) Jane and Elaine on the Night shift were fantastic.

Negatives - Larch being an admission ward I found was hectic beyond belief, the nurses do a sterling job but to me there seemed to be a shortage of blankets, sheets, pillow cases, cup holders. It’s 2010!

The floor in Room 27 consultation room I thought was dirty beyond belief, I felt like the staff were dumbfounded when cleaners swept the muck out into the corridor leaving it heaped up where people were trying to walk and move trolleys/ patients etc. There was also a very old and large blood stain on the floor.

Aspen Ward was serenity! Very calming and relaxing to recover from my op.

At no time on either ward was I made to feel like a hindrance when asking for things but patience was needed on Larch as the girls were just so unbelievably busy.

The Vicar and Nun visited people on Aspen. On the whole I was cared for very well but come on it is 2010 and I think our nurses need more recognition/help/pay and our hospital wards more TLC.
