I accidentally rolled over on my ankle and wasn't sure if it was broken so my doctors staff told me to go to the Yorkhill MIU. My sister who had hurt her wrist weeks ago was driving me there and decided she would ask them to have a look at it. While driving there my son called me and when finding out where I was headed informed me he had to go there to get an X-ray so could we pick him up. So there we were, all 3 presenting ourselves with different ailments looking for help, a strange family outing! : )
The receptionists were absolutely lovely to us and promptly got us into the system while we had a laugh about our day out. Less than 5 minutes later we were called one after another to be attended to by really professional friendly nurse practitioners and X-Ray technicians.
I couldn't believe how quickly and professionally we were seen and treated, (about 30mins total) but the most impressive thing about our time there was the staff. They were upbeat, caring, welcoming, and professional. I can honestly say it's the first time I've had a good laugh at a hospital!
I don't know if the concept of minor injury units is new, but it's a great way to take some pressure off the already crowded A&E's and a MUCH better experience for someone like myself, who needed more help than my doctors surgery could give me, but not needing as much as a hospital.
If the staff in this unit get this feedback please tell them a big thank you from us.
