"Excellent care compassion and respect"

About: Chesterfield Royal Hospital

I was diagnosed with breast cancer June 2016 I was admitted as a day caae on the 15th June 2016 to the day case unit. I have nothing but praise for my breast care team my surgeons in fact all the team who looked after me that day and still do. After having a bad experience with my mum and her breast cancer team at the Royal Derby I elected to come to you which I am so glad I did. The only complaint I have is that I wasn't allowed a family member to be with me until I went down to theater. Which I think needs looking at some obviously with any surgery having a loved one with you helps keep you calm.

Thank you for your lovely post which I will share with our day case and breast care teams.

I was really pleased to know that you feel you made the right decision to have surgery at Chesterfield Royal.

I will make sure that your comment about having a loved one with you is passed back for reflection. You'll have seen that the size of the day case ward is an issue in terms of friends or family being with patients, but may be this is something we need to consider when surgery is emotionally difficult to face.

If you would like to email your contact details to crhft.communications@nhs.net I can arrange for someone to get back to you about this suggestion.

I hope the surgery went well and that you are making a good recovery.

Kind regards Sarah Turner-Saint head of communications
