"my son"

About: East Surrey Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

(as a parent/guardian),

My son was told by consultant radiologist, that we needed an urgent appointment as he had a significant problem with his eating/ drinking and was losing weight due to a rare condition that means food gets stuck in his throat and does not have ability to go into the stomach without pain, fluids and very tiny morsels being eaten. To complicate matters my son is very disabled and very vulnerable - however when I didn't hear from the hospital about his appointment I began phoning everyday and then finally going to PALS where we finally got an appointment( within the 2 weeks that is normally seen as URGENT) - however, two hours after someone phoning to say he had an appointment, someone else phoned cancelling it, with no explanation or further appointment. We are disgusted and distraught and my son is still struggling to eat and drink and has now developed a throat infection. I think this is shameful treatment.

The one positive is that the communication between ENT secretary was excellent.

Update posted by Very worried mum (a parent/guardian)

I have spoken to PALS this morning and had the matter sorted, he now has his original appointment reinstated.

I would also like to add that PALS were friendly, supportive and efficient.

I feel much less stressed than before- however we still do not know who cancelled the appointment or why it was cancelled.
