"My stay on huntsman 4: bad attitude of some staff"

About: Northern General Hospital

(as the patient),

I recently underwent surgery on huntsman 4 which involved staying in a few nights, Im not normally a moaner. And i would like to say first of all that my negative comments do not effect everyone. They just tend to stand out more.

I found the surgical care fantastic. I was offered frequent explanations and updates as to my progression. But the main problem i have is the attitude and professionalism of a small handful of staff. They spoke down to me as though i was a child. I have a face stuck in my mind of one particular who NEVER smiled, moaned even in earshot of the patients in my bay and on occasion refused to help a staff nurse who asked her for some help and said 'im not moving for anybody.'. I often heard groups of staff talking negatively about everyone and everything. i asked on one occasion for a cup of tea 3 hours after my surgery and was told 'no' with no explanation.

It wasn't all bad. There were excellent nurses and carers who were fabulous at their jobs and full of knowledge and enthusiasm. There just seems to be a few bad eggs which unfortunately gave me the impression that the morale was being lowered for all. my worry is that others who are much more sensitive than me it may effect more. as surgery is a life changing experience and should be as positive an experience as possible.

But thank you to those who the negativity does not effect, im sure you will know who you are.
