What I liked
I have recently been under the care of the consultant following a diagnosis of breast cancer. The care I have received at every stage from my first visit has been excellent. I am currently employed by Newcastle PCT as a school nurse and am very well aware of the bad press often received by the NHS. the consultant and his team have provided professional, courteous honest and supportive care which I have very much valued at this difficult time. The Breast Care Nurse Team provide a service second to none and I cannot speak highly enough of them-just having someone that can be contacted easily and can give the information and reasuurance needed makes dealing with this so much easier.I had two admissions to Ward 31 in Jan and Feb and again found all the staff to be professional, caring and pleasant. The ward was well run and spotlessly clean.I would be very grateful if my comments could be passed to all involved as I know from experience that management are often quick to point the finger of blame when things go wrong but not so fast to give praise when due! Finally, I have just started chemotherapy at Hexham under the care of the consultant and his team and so far this promises to be an equally positive experience albeit one that I'm hoping I dont have to repeat!
What could be improved
Having to wait three weeks for MRI scan following initial diagnosis was very difficult. Maybe an appt should be booked as soon as the team know MRI is needed rather than waiting to tell the patient then book date.
