"missed diagnosis"

About: Royal Free Hospital

Brought my mother to the royal free 2 days in a row due to severe abdominal and back pain. After an abdominal examination was told that she was just severely constipated. Gave her all the medication prescribed including enema and no help, hence the second trip. Finally got given an abdominal xray which the doctor showed me and said 'look, its just constipation'. Took my mum back up North where we live and back to a&e, abdominal examination led to surgery the same day which led to a swift terminal cancer diagnosis. The early diagnosis at the Royal Free would not have changed my mothers outcome but my mother would have been even the appropriate pain relief that she needed and would have not lost confidence in her medical team due to being dismissed by the a&e doctors in the Royal Free. I find it very concerning that this was not picked up by the doctors in a&e.
