I spent 4 days on Lincoln Ward (14/06/16 to 17/06/16) following an elective thyroidectomy, I was given a private side room and I had a same sex toilet/shower very nearby.
The nursing staff were very good. They really did all go out of their way to look after me & make my stay as good as possible.
Although I have complications post surgery, the doctors were attentive, thorough, listened & even managed to make me smile. The doctor organised the involvement of ENT & SALTS. Also my consultant and especially the registrar took the time to listen to me, I felt they had real empathy & genuine care over my surgery complication & even organised for a member of the hospital staff to visit me who had gone through a similar complication & had recovered.
The staff member that delivered the drinks/breakfast always met me with a smile every morning and took the time to make sure my needs were met as I was having great difficulty swallowing.
The person who cleaned the floors/emptied the bins was always very polite, always asked permission to enter & clean my room & would always ask if I wanted my door open or closed when they finished.
My bed was changed everyday, which felt so nice when being in it all the time day/night for 4 days.
Although no surgery is nice, it is always made better by being well looked after & cared for & I am sure has set me in good stead for my road to recovery.
Thank you sincerely to everyone involved, such a great team, a real credit to your hospital.
