"Waiting times for ENT appointment are unacceptable"

About: Royal Derby Hospital / Ear, Nose and Throat

(as the patient),

Terrible service to say the least! I was referred to the ENT clinic from my GP 6 weeks ago, I received a letter from the GP surgery a few days later with all of my details enclosed and on the letter it said that I should be given an appointment by the 6th June; needless to say I still have not received one yet. I rang up earlier to the main reception; who were friendly and very helpful, they transferred the call to the Appointments Line who had told me that I would be receiving an appointment a date in September and no earlier. I find this very pathetic that I am having to wait 16 weeks (4 months) for an ENT appointment. That is outrageous, we live in Derby not London. I cannot believe that it takes 16 weeks to get a 20 minute appointment, I cannot simply believe this! It's ridiculous.

Thank you for your comments and I would like to take this opportunity to offer you my apologies for the inconvenience caused to you in respect of this matter.

I can confirm I have liaised with my colleagues in the Ear, Nose & Throat Department (ENT), who advise that they have experiencing a massive increase in referrals to the service. All referrals received in the department are triaged by Consultants and are separated into categories:

· Patients requiring urgent cancer treatment

· Routine referrals, the latter are seen in order

My colleagues in ENT would also like to offer you their apologies and confirm that if you wish to provide further details, they would be happy to investigate that matter for you further.

Kind Regards,

Patient Advice & Liaison Team (PALS)
