"Exemplary care and kindness"

About: Royal Cornwall Hospital (Treliske)

I was admitted to Surgical Admissions for acute abdominal pain - suspected appendicitis.

My treatment involved a 2 night stay and a laparoscopy (keyhole investigative surgery) to treat what turned out to be a ruptured ovarian cyst.

I stayed in the St Mawes unit.

I cannot praise the staff of the Treliske hospital highly enough.

Every single person I came into contact with was extremely kind and caring - each person 'going the extra mile' to show a human touch and to make my stay as comfortable as it could possibly be.

I am a fairly anxious patient, and not accustomed to hospitals, and I was given lots of reassurance and kind words before and after my procedure by the anesthetists and recovery nurses.

At every step of the way I was kept informed as to what was going to happen.

Nothing was too much trouble.

Any needs were attended to swiftly - even marmite on toast and a cup of tea made for me after I came back to the ward after my procedure at 2.30am!

Pain relief was considered a priority and was administered swiftly when needed - with the nurses often checking in to make sure I was comfortable.

I slept soundly and comfortably - with noise kept to a minimum at night (not something I have experienced in other hospitals).

The ward was bright, airy and thankfully not hot and stuffy as many hospitals.

The wards and toilets were spotless and everywhere cleaned regularly and thoroughly.

The food was very good indeed.

Thank you again to the doctors and nurses at Treliske - I am very grateful and feel very lucky that this standard of care is available through our wonderful NHS.
