"excellent treatment for two and a half years"

In November 2013 I arrived at ent for a 9.30 appointment ,with only a small lump on my neck,i thought it was a swollen gland and I was not ill at all .at 9.30 I saw my consultant (I wish I could name the consultant as they, and their team are awesome) they put a camera up my nose , their hand in my mouth , took some fluid from my neck ,told me to go book a ct scan, go get a brew come back in an hour and we will have the results .at 11.30 I was called back in, and the results were back and unfortunately it was cancer ,they had diagnosed within two hours. The consultant then explained to me what they were going to do to me in a way I was very happy with ,and then the consultant introduced the registrar who was all ready in the room and they booked me in for my biopsy and my modified radical neck dissection and told me to go and have an jaw xray before I go home .although my world had come crashing down I was so happy to have a team that that knew what to do and was not hanging around and just getting on with it .

The next day I started to get appointment letters to see my support team and for my pre opp. It was amazing it was as if someone had pressed a button and all these people came out off the woodwork to see me like a well oiled manchine , everything went like clockwork.

I had my operation and chemoradiation everything went well and now two and a half years later I have been going through the side effects and have been treated in six hospitals and lots off different departments and I can put my hand on my heart and say that I have had the best from the NHS and the worst , and in my opinion some hospitals and some departments could learn a lot from the ent department, as for two and a half years they have me given me consistently fantastic treatment from the start and continue too do so .I am so glad to have had such unbelievable service from all staff I have had dealings with .as from day one I was so positive because of the way I was treated that it got me through this nightmare , my experience with other hospitals and some other departments have been hit and miss and if I had this kind off experience first I would not been so positive that I would have got through this nightmare

As I can't name people I would just like to say thank you to the ent department staff ,from the reception staff ,all nurses ,doctors ,consultants ,surgeons and every member off staff that works there, they are always on the ball ,helpful, polite, friendly, professional, understanding and sympathetic they all deserve a lot of respect and a big pay rise , I can not express my graduated for saving my life and I tell my cancer story with a very positive out look thank you one and all . I am very happy to talk further about my treatment
