What I liked
The atmosphere and helpfulness in the medical assessment ward was great. The nurses on the wards were mostley really good and the consultant was very attentive and treated me well.
What could be improved
The food service was diabolical. I missed so many meals by being moved from one place to another that I spent three days eating nothing but toast or sandwiches. I lost so much weight that my wedding ring fell off and I still can't wear it. The meals that I did eventually get were never what I ordered, always tepid, unpalatable and small.
Anything else?
The ward developed a bug originally thought to be food poisoning because the meal that afternoon was not very hot at all. Two out of nine patients were confirmed with Noro Virus, one patient did not eat the food so food poisoning might have been the cause. However after I was discharged, within 12 hours I had terrible diarrhoea and so did my wife as she had spent four hours with me waiting for the discharge medication to arrive. Three days later we had both finally recovered.
With regard to infection control - we watched a nurse take patients obs and sats- the finger clip on the machine was not cleaned between patients nor did the nurse wash her hands. Maybe she thought that only touching the machine exonorated her from carrying germs!
