Is this an example of acceptable care?

My 83 year old father was admitted to Pendle C.H. on Saturday 6th Feb. I was advised at 11am on Feb 17th that my father had been complaining of chest pains. The Sister advised me that the doctor wanted test done and a transfer was in progress to send him to the Blackburn Royal.

He duly arrived at the Blackburn Royal around 12AM. I arrived to join him within minutes of his arrival.

After appropriate monitoring, test & checks lasting the afternoon at the A&E my father was advised that his problem was not heart related on this occasion but a likely muscular / skeletal problem. He was all clear for re-transfer back to Pendle the same night.

Incredibly we were then advised (my sister now attending) that he could not be transferred back to Pendle because his bed had been reallocated.

The explanation - they (Pendle) thought that my father had had a Heart attack and would not presumably need a bed at Pendle.

Two points I wish to make:-

How can a decision be made to reallocate a bed so hastily without making proper enquiry about the likely outcome of the test ordered by Pendle.

I am not in the medical profession but I know that test would reveal within hours whether a person had suffered a heart attack.

Why Pendle did not try to my ascertain fathers outcome before reallocating the bed?

When was it decided that good science in the medical profesion would be replaced by guess work / presumption. I must have missed that Health Service announcement.

2. I want to emphasize that we are happy that my father was sent for checks / testing - he does a history of Heart problems.

Thankfully It was reassuring to us to see him on his arrival at Blackburn A& E and obvious that the decision to send him for testing was a precautionary step.

Given that situation I am even more incredulous to learn that his bed at Pendle was reallocated.

Is is simply not good enough. I believe Pen.CH owes us a full & frank explanation.
