"Urgent care walk in service."

About: Blackheath Hospital

It is great to have a walk in urgent care service that you can pay for. I do, however, have some reservations. Depending on which GP you get the service is varied. One doctor was excellent, on another occasion, another was much less so. I was given the wrong information as to the follow up for my complaint and I did not feel fully confident in the doctor, who seemed detached.

The most difficult experience was the nurse. I was very stressed at the time and sitting on the bed I was trying to explain to the doctor what was wrong, the nurse was putting on a blood pressure monitor, yanking up my sleeve, sticking a thermometer in my mouth. I felt like I was under siege, they were so rushed and insensitive, my blood pressure went through the roof.

It was a really stressful experience.

If you sprain an ankle or something and don't want to wait 4 to 6 hrs in A&E this is a very good option as xrays and treatment for such things are good, but for other issues I'm not sure. At least in my case.

I may go again if the local GP wait is horrendous as it often is but with reservations.

My thoughts are, that the nurse assistant needs to slow down and think about the patients experience and that some medical staff need to listen and at least seem genuinely engaged and concerned. It costs quite a bit after all.
