"In pain with penis"

About: Manchester Royal Infirmary

Today I am in real agony with my penis. Ring this GUM centre and they tell me it is a walk in centre the irony is I can barely walk myself. I don't work in Manchester and need to see someone as I am in agony. They tell me you can't make an appointment you have to come at 8am. If I can't get there for 8am what am I meant to do? You can't make an appointment at this centre so Their advice is go and sit in A & E for 4 hours. This no appointment system is an absololute joke! No help. No health service here!

Thank-you for taking the time to write to us about your experience at Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust via the NHS Choices website. It is important to us that feedback is seen as an opportunity to make changes and improvements wherever possible.

I was very sorry to read about your experience within our Sexual Health service where you found it difficult to book an appointment. The Hathersage Service does offer appointments, however these are for future bookings and there is usually a 1 to 2 weeks wait. As such these appointments also tend to be for non-urgent matters. The majority of our patients are seen in the walk-in service which operates Monday to Thursday from 8am to 7pm and 8 to 5pm on Friday.

Demand for appointments is variable and so we do recommend patients come to book in at the clinic reception as early as possible to guarantee a slot for that day. We are always open to suggestions on how to improve our service, and again we appreciate your feedback, which we will discuss at our service development meeting.

After consideration of this response you may wish to provide us with more detail, which would allow us carry out a complete investigation of your concerns. If you would like to do this then please do not hesitate to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service on 0161 276 8686 or by e-mailing pals@cmft.nhs.uk.
