"My brothers stay in New Cross Hospital"

My brother recently was admitted to ward B7 with a suspected infection & dehydration.He is 57 years old with Downs syndrome and early onset of dementia. He was on ward B7 for 4 weeks and in that time was not taken out of bed once nor taken to the toilet. Because he couldn't ask for these things, he was just left in bed. He ate and drank virtually nothing except when his family visited him & encouraged him to drink juice & eat Muller rice or custard.Because of his dementia, he often refused these things but could eventually be persuaded with a little time & care. There was obviously not enough staff to spend time to do this and hence he left the hospital & was admitted to a nursing home unable to walk or feed himself even though he could do both of these things before spending 4 weeks bed bound. The staffing level seems inadequate for the ward he was on.I, his sister, work in the NHS and have always championed it but in this case we felt completely let down.
