"terrific"

About: Royal Manchester Children's Hospital

Last year, when my daughter was 10 days old we were advised to go to Manchester kids a and e after several rubbish days in Preston hospital watching, what we now know to be a breast abscess getting bigger and more infected despite antibiotics. Two trips to Manchester a and e and on the second she was admitted, and had surgery to get rid of the abscess.

Its a year on and she didn't have any problems, they did a really good job and we were so lucky to have the same docs seeing her through.

I hope one day there will be leaflets/ clear clinical guidelines on the treatmennt and management of breast abscess in a baby so young. It was so scary and I still cant find info on whether I should breast feed my next child or not (its one of the few times breast milk, the hormone change) caused the abscess. Manchester gave us confidence it could be treated and delivered. We cant thank the staff enough, even with the long a and e waits we knew it was because other kids needed seeing more urgently.
