My 80 year-old mum came to visit me in Aberdeen in April. She wasn't feeling so well and had been having some tests in Birmingham. She walked (!) to A&E at the ARI and was swiftly admitted.
Three days, many tests and a stay in HDU later she was taken to theatre for major surgery. A large (cancerous) tumour had been found on her colon. She then spent two weeks on Ward 501.
She received truly outstanding care; nurses, doctors, healthcare assistants were amazing. My mother is convinced that without the prompt and efficient care she received she wouldn't be here today. She is now extolling the virtues of Scottish healthcare to her family south of the border!
