"People smoking on hospital premises"

About: King's Mill Hospital

(as a relative),

I have been visiting a relative at Kings Mill Hospital Nottinghamshire for the past week. Every day there are patients and visitors standing at the Main hospital entrance and the A/E dept entrance smoking. You walk through a cloud of smoke to get in to the building. In A/E the waiting area smells strongly of cigarette smoke as the smoke from outside enters through the air vents in the A/E waiting room. There are large clear signs saying this is a no smoking hospital but people are oblivious to the signs even standing smoking right next to them.

There are cigarette ends on the floor all around the entrances

Why bother making the statement that the hospital is smoke free when it is clearly not enforced

I do not want to bring my relative who has a chronic lung condition through a cloud of smoke when he is discharged.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. I am sorry to hear that your experiences visiting your relative have been affected by the smoky atmosphere at the hospital entrance.

I have passed your comments on to the relevant staff. In the meantime, if you would like to discuss this further please contact the Patient Experience Team on 01623 672222 or email pet@sfh-tr.nhs.uk
